Sunset’s eyes widened at the mention of the former, her mouth watering slightly. “Ok, that sounds good. I’ll definitely have one of those!”
Marinette blinked, surprised at first by the girl’s expressive response then let out another gentle laugh.
“Okay, one Pain au chocolat coming right up!”
She announced, before pulling out a small box and walked over to one of the pastry cabinets. Grabbing onto a pair of tongs, she slide open the glass door and used them to pick up the croissant, placing it neatly into the box she brought with her. Marinette turned around with a smile and held the treat out to her guest.
“Here you go.”
“Thanks!” Sunset said, gently taking the bag from her. “These look really good!” She said excitedly. “I’m Sunset, by the way. Sunset Shimmer. Maybe I’ll… See you around sometime?”
She slowly approached her, as she her high-heeled shows clicked slowly before stopping behind her.
Yes. It is me dear. I am just relieved to have found you… When Princess Twilight mentioned not hearing from you for sometime and got worried, she was going to come looking for you, but I chose to come in her place. I felt… I needed too…
Deep down, Celestia was relieved and happy to see Sunset was alright and not hurt. She wanted to hug her, but she saw her shaken the moment she realized who she was. She didn’t want to scare her more, so she would just be easy.
She placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. It felt comforting and gentle.
Could you please turn so I can get a better look at you, dear?
Sunset took a shuddering breath as she felt a hand gently touch her shoulder. It took everything in her willpower not to collapse in a sobbing mess on the street. Slowly, she turned around and faced her old mentor, friend and even mother figure with red, puffy, tear filled eyes. “Is.. is it really you…” She asked.
She just smiled softly, looking at her. She simply brought the girl to her and hugged her, rubbing the back of her head softly.
It’s alright my little Sun… I’m really here. It’s alright now…
As calm and gentle as she was, Celestia was slowly letting some tears shed. This was real for both of them, and even after all these years, she still saw her faithful student, her old friend… the daughter she never had. Nothing in the world mattered as she held the sobbing girl close.
I am just glad… you are alright after all these moons. Let us go find a spot that is a bit more private and we can talk… alright? I have… so much I want to say you.
Sunset pulled the ruler into a tight embrace, thankful that she was her, and now she never wanted to let her go, her cries growing louder as she clung to Celestia. “Mommy… Mommy, I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to leave you! I was just so stupid and selfish! I never wanted to hurt you! I’m a bad pony! I’m a bad pony…”
This surprised Celestia and she couldn’t help but look down at her. She kneels down and held her tightly, rocking her gently.
Ssh-ssh… it’s alright sweetie. I know I know… I’m here now, and I won’t let you go…
She said gently, stroking her head softly. Really, she was trying hard not to breakdown as well, just hearing her daughter saying she was a bad pony made her heartache.
I know… you didn’t mean to leave me. Even after all this time, I never stopped thinking about you, and I never stopped loving you, my little Sunset.
She just continued to rock her gently to help her calm down.
You are not a bad pony… If anything, I’m the bad pony… I was a bad teacher… a bad mother. I feel responsible for pushing you down the path you went… I never meant to push you away from me…
She pulls her away to look into her tear filled eyes, showing she too was on the verge of breaking down too as some tears roll down her cheek.
Oh my little Sun, I am so, so, sorry for what happened back then… I hope you can forgive me for what happened.
I should’ve been a better mother and mentor to you, and I failed…
“No! Don’t say that! It’s not your fault!” Sunset said, finally looking Celestia in the eyes. “It’s all mine! I wanted nothing more then power… And it failed… I failed… I failed you… I’m a bad daughter…” She said, tears streaming down her face.
She slowly approached her, as she her high-heeled shows clicked slowly before stopping behind her.

Sunset gently nuzzled her head against Yuri’s as she she held her. “I’m sorry, I just… I get so worried sometimes…” She said. “I really care about you, Yuri… I don’t want to see you hurt…”
“You don’t need to worry about me.” Yuri reassured her, taking a deep breath as she slowly recollected herself. “… You really don’t. You won’t see me hurt.”
“Ok… Ok.” Sunset said. “I trust you. And… I’m sorry for… Freaking out like that.”
“don’t feel bad for one moment about doing what brings you joy.”
“be glad of your human heart. pity those who don’t feel anything at all.”
“i love you. thorns and all.”
“we need hope, or else we cannot endure.”
“you look… better than before. and your hair is… clean.”
“do you ever stop being so serious and dull?”
“do you ever stop being a prick?”
“you could have demanded every single week of the year. every single week, and i would’ve said yes.”
“he also said that you liked being brushed, and if i’m clever i might train you with treats.”
“everything i love always has the tendency to be taken away from me.”
“i would have been gentle with you, though.”
“i’m tired and lonely, and you’re the only person i can talk to without putting myself at risk.”
“because i wouldn’t want to die alone. because i’d want someone to hold my hand until the end, and awhile after that. that’s something everyone deserves.”
“i didn’t want you to fight alone. or die alone.”
“has anyone ever taken care of you?”
“i’m drawn to it, even when i know i shouldn’t be, even when i try not to be.”
“beneath all your pride and stubbornness, i could have sworn i detected something that felt differently. interesting.”
“my priority would be to help my family—and i would have picked whatever side could keep them safest. i hadn’t thought of it as a weakness until now.”
“before you start yelling…”
“killing us is easier in pants.”
“all those years, what i did for them… and they didn’t try to stop you from taking me.”
“we’re too powerful, and too bored with immortality, to be checked by anything else.”
“we had contests to see who could write the dirtiest limericks while i was living with my father’s war-band by the border. i don’t particularly enjoy losing, so i took it upon myself to become good at them.”
“do you lie awake at night to come up with all your witty replies for the following day?”
“you don’t hold on to power by being everyone’s friend.”
“if it grieves you, then i don’t think it’s absurd at all.”
“better to die with my chin held high than groveling like a cowering worm.”
