IT SHOWS THEIR MOST RECENT POST BEING 3 HOURS AGO AND THIS IS HAPPENING TO MULTIPLE BLOGS IF NOT ALL
You can and probably should reblog this because this is much much more likely to kill this site than the flagging thing
I’ve been told I’m one of the blogs that seems to be broken. So please spread it around.
As far as I can tell, this is affecting anybody who’s having posts reviewed and then approved as SFW. Once they’re cleared they get shoved to the top of your blog like they’re the most recent, burying your chronological theme. (Right now for example, I can’t see @elizabthturner‘s or @lorelaigilmoure‘s newest posts on their blogs even though they’re at the top of my dash).
just to be clear, I’m staying here as long as this site functions. I have 0 intentions of deleting this blog, I will go down with this ship if only to see exactly how bad it gets
Here’s the thing: even if you aren’t someone who enjoys nsfw material, I think we can all agree that this blanket ban is ridiculous and a completely ass-backwards way of going about fixing a problem that SHOULD have been taken care of over a year ago…
Not only is the wording of their announcement incredibly vague and, frankly, highly offensive / misogynistic (“ female-presenting nipples “ more than implying that women’s bodies are inherently sexual and offensive and need to be censored. ) , but the algorithm they’re using for it is so badly constructed that it’s been flagging everything left and right, regardless of content. ( Pictures of kittens / landscapes / and even rp text posts… ) They’re axeing blogs. There’s minimal, if any, human oversight of any of it… and the only way to really ‘ appeal ‘ , that I currently know of, is to go through and actively request a review for each individual post. On one of my rp blogs, alone, I have over 11000 posts. That’s not even feasible… and I think staff knows this.
For me, tumblr has been a safe haven… one of the first places that ever made me feel good about my sexuality in an extremely conservative IRL community. It’s the place I’ve spent years improving my writing, building worlds and characters that I am so proud of… and not only that, I’ve connected to some of my closest friends through this site. And I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s come to view this place — even with all of it’s undeniable issues — as something of a safe haven. An escape from the world… where we could just be, create stories together, support eac other, and form bonds over our love of creativity. But, in the blink of an eye, that could all be wiped away by the staff’s utter incompetence and disregard for their users.
By all means, I whole-heartedly agree that the pornbots and cp NEEDS TO GO. But, this is not the way to do it. Not by a long shot.
And, @staff, I doubt you’re listening, but on the off chance, allow me to offer some alternatives to nuking your entire site and running your profits into the Earth’s inner core: Honestly, just stop the bleeding, first, then work your way in… Make it harder for pornbots to be created / post content. Make a better filtering system for your already existing SAFE MODE for those who want it. Make a better algorithm for detecting these bots and have actual human moderation of said algorithms and the content they’re flagging… don’t just flag and delete without a second glance. Just do something that will actually work / WON’T lose you your entire stock. Because what you’re doing right now, as maybe you’ve gathered, yourself, isn’t going to do ANYTHING but drive people away and run you out of business.
