“I just… I already lost my old friends…” She said, still holding her. “I don’t want to lose you…”

“You’re not going to… I’d never kill myself, you know…” Yuri sniffed, leaning her chin against Sunset’s shoulder. “P-Please calm down. I.. I don’t- I mean, I-…”

She knew explaining things further – describing to Sunset what she actually planned to do with that knife – would only upset her more. And that was reasonable, of course. That’s why she just had to keep this strange “hobby” to herself.

Sunset gently nuzzled her head against Yuri’s as she she held her. “I’m sorry, I just… I get so worried sometimes…” She said. “I really care about you, Yuri… I don’t want to see you hurt…”

Sunset held the girl tighter, tears streaming down her face. “Shhh, I’m here… I’m here… It’ll be ok..”

“Y-You shouldn’t… shouldn’t…” She sniffed pathetically, clutching the knife. “… worry so much. I don’t have.. depression, or anything.. I’m not… it’s not what you think.”

Before she could leave though, Sunset quickly turned her around and wrapped her in a hug, whispering in her ear, “Please… Be safe…”

… That broke her. Normally Yuri wasn’t one for tears to spill, but she burst into sobs as soon as she felt Sunset’s embrace. “It’s.. it’s…” She couldn’t finish again, throwing her arms around her while being immensely careful with the knife.

Sunset held the girl tighter, tears streaming down her face. “Shhh, I’m here… I’m here… It’ll be ok..”

“If… If I give this back to you… I want you to swear, on your life, that you won’t do anything with it except look at it.” Sunset said, holding the knife out, handle first, to Yuri.

“…” Yuri stayed silent for a little while, looking back at her, normally pale features now red and puffy. … But it wasn’t like she didn’t have other knives. “I swear.”

And, with that, she took the knife by its handle and began to walk away. “Thank you, Sunset.”

Before she could leave though, Sunset quickly turned her around and wrapped her in a hug, whispering in her ear, “Please… Be safe…”

“What?” Sunset said, surprised. “Yuri, I don’t think you’re strange. I think you’re kind, sweet, pretty, and smart… But…” She paused, stopping to wipe her eyes before saying, “I’m just worried! I don’t want anything bad to happen to you…”

“I did this… I-I… I made you cry. I showed you that- …” Yuri sighed again, still not looking back at her. “Nothing bad will happen to me. I’m just going home. Monika will understand. Please let me go home, Sunset.”

“Yuri, wait!” Sunset said, gently grabbing her wrist. “Please… Don’t go… Just… Talk to me… Please…” She said shakily.

“… Look at all the trouble I caused.” Yuri didn’t look back at her, eyes going down to the floor. “People begin to like me, and then they see how strange I am, and I drive them away. I’m going home now. … Give me back my knife, please. I don’t want it missing from my collection.”

“Yuri, I love knives too, but… This is worrying.” Sunset said, her eyes growing Misty. “People don’t usually go into bathrooms with knives unless… Unless…”

“I just wanted to look at- …” Yuri stopped, her entire body suddenly trembling as she looked down straight at the floor. “…I’m going home early, Sunset. Tell the others I wasn’t feeling well. Thank you for your concern.”

“Yuri, wait!” Sunset said, gently grabbing her wrist. “Please… Don’t go… Just… Talk to me… Please…” She said shakily.
