âOh.â Sonata froze and looked at the rose. She took it from Sunsetâs hand and twirled it around. âOuch!âÂ
She had pricked her finger on one of the thorns. Without thinking much of it she put her hurt finger to her mouth. But she smiled at the other woman and giggled. ââhank you!â she told her. âtâs âeatiful!â
Sunset giggled at the silly little action the siren did as she mumbled her words together. âYeah, I just⌠I wanted to say sorry about what happened with Aria⌠I donât think Shimmer wouldâve stopped if you hadnât stepped in like you didâŚâ
âI had to step in,â Sonata told her. âDonât really have a choice. SheâsâŚsheâs my twin. Sheâd do the same for me.â
She held the rose in one hand and touched that arm with another, girlishly lingering now. She seemed much younger than her sisters. While Aria carried herself with a world-weariness and Adagio had the seductive charm of a conqueror, Sonata often acted like a teen girl or young woman.
âAnd Shimmer was only defending you. Aria told me what happened. She pushed you too far. You wouldnât have turned if she hadnât started the fight. So really. You shouldnât have to apologize. But I like the flower. Iâll put it in a vase.â
“I… I’m glad you like it…” Sunset said with a nervous smile. “I… I didn’t know if you’d wanna talk to me still after that… I just… I don’t know what I would’ve done if you didn’t. You’ve been one of the nicer people I’ve met, and I feel I can’t thank you enough for that…”
She tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear before reaching over and giving the siren a swift kiss on the cheek.
