DRACULA (1931) SENTENCE STARTERS
Demencia flashed back to Flug’s wrecked lab that morning. The broken beakers, the tossed over tables, the other dead experiments, the utter chaos she had made of everything. Blood still stained her teeth from where she had taken a chunk out of another experiment’s tender neck. She had calmed since Shimmer’s arrival. She looked at the demon and her head dropped.
They were out of the Manor now. Shimmer had arrived to take her away from there when she needed her.
“I don’t know why I did it,” she explained. “I got mad. He’ll probably figure out it was me who wrecked it. What am I going to do? They might put me in the cage again. I don’t like the cage.”
When Shimmer had gone to the Manor to pick up Dem when she called her, a blood covered, torn clothes mess of a lizard isn’t what she had expected to see. But she knew she had to get Demencia out of there. So she scooped her up, set her on her bike and drove. And now here they were at Shimmer’s, with her gently wiping Dem’s mouth with a cloth to get the blood off her lips.
“I wont let that happen. I’ll die before they put you in a goddamn cage!” Shimmer snapped before calming herself. This wasn’t helping. She gently placed her hand on the womans cheek, gently stroking her thumb along her skin. “I won’t let anything get to you. Not while I’m around. If they want you, they’ll have to go through me.”
Demencia tensed.
“Shimmer, I’d rather go in the cage than have you die.”
That idea scared her substantially more!
She wasn’t one to usually think things through before she spoke, so she didn’t realize Shimmer was probably only expressing how strongly against the idea of letting Demencia be punished she felt.
Instead she grew nervous and tense and grabbed Shimmer’s hand. “Just let them think someone broke in. A rival villain. I’ll say I was out…walking Johan.”
Shimmer placed her hand on top of Demencia’s, saying “Ok… ok, that could work. And I can also make for a good alibi too. You can say that when you were walking him, you ran into me and we went out and did something together.” Shimmer said nervously. “That’ll work right?”
She laced her fingers around Demencia’s hand and moved in closer, gently pressing her forehead against Dem’s. The smell of blood was still present on her breath, but she didn’t seem to care she she kissed her anyway. “I just… I love you too much too see you get hurt…”
