“I promised to see her again after I visited her the first time. She seems really nice…”

“That she is kid… that she is.”

It was rare for her to do what she was fixing to do, but she had a hunch about this guy. Rubbing the bridge of her nose, she reached into her jacket pocket and pulled out a pack of cigarettes. Usually she only had one once a month but… she was feeling it today.

“So how old are you kid?” She asked, conjuring up a small flame with her fingertip to light the cigarette up.

“Sixteen.”

Yawning, the vampire gave his simple answer, and crossed his arms. He was…. always incredibly lazy, and found it to be too much trouble explaining or giving more than a sentence for an answer.

Quite the charmer, huh?

Shimmer took a drag off cigarette, blowing the smoke off to the side with a deep sigh before saying, “Look, I’m gonna be straight with you kid. Savannah is an amazing girl. She’s spontaneous, outgoing and just plain fun to be around. But she’s also very naive in certain things.”

She turned to look at the boy as she tapped her ashes on the ground. “Now, I know she isn’t really one for human interaction, so my guess is that you aren’t human. Because you certainly aren’t giving that vibe off. So what are you? And what your name, by the way?”

Sighing, he scratched his cheek, slouching again.

“I’m a Servamp. …. My name is Sleepy Ash, or just… Kuro.”

Now, this woman made him uncomfortable. Especially because he wasn’t the type to fight women, even if they wanted to kill him. So if she decided to go after him, he’d likely have to spend a few days here healing.

Which was always a pain.

“Huh. Haven’t met a Servamp before. But I have heard of them. And Kuuuurrrro…” she said, dragging out his name. “Well, it’s nice to meet you I suppose. Name’s Shimmer.” She said, finishing off her cigarette and stomping it out on the ground.

“Now, I wanna make one thing clear. And whether not you care is entirely up to you.” She quickly grabbed him by the jacket and pulled him in close, her eyes blazing with a warning malice. “You may be this lazy looking teenage kid, but I swear, if you hurt her in any way, I’ll rip your fucking head off and send it your master in a box with a bow on top. Got it?”

“Um, Dem? There’s… something I’ve been meaning to tell you…”

“Yeah, Shimmy?”

“Um…” she shyly tapped her fingertips together, looking down before saying, “How… how do you feel about like… open relationships?”

Demencia tilted her head.

“I’m pretty open to open relationships. Figured that was what we were in to be honest. You want to go over…like, specifics and stuff?”

Shimmer nodded her head and seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. “Yeah. Just so there’s no confusion or anything between us, ya know?”

She swallowed before asking, “So… is there also anyone else you’re seeing? Besides me, that is.”

“I wasn’t going to say anything. I told them nothing.”

DRACULA (1931) SENTENCE STARTERS

Demencia flashed back to Flug’s wrecked lab that morning. The broken beakers, the tossed over tables, the other dead experiments, the utter chaos she had made of everything. Blood still stained her teeth from where she had taken a chunk out of another experiment’s tender neck. She had calmed since Shimmer’s arrival. She looked at the demon and her head dropped.

They were out of the Manor now. Shimmer had arrived to take her away from there when she needed her.

“I don’t know why I did it,” she explained. “I got mad. He’ll probably figure out it was me who wrecked it. What am I going to do? They might put me in the cage again. I don’t like the cage.”

Shimmer placed her hand on top of Demencia’s, saying “Ok… ok, that could work. And I can also make for a good alibi too. You can say that when you were walking him, you ran into me and we went out and did something together.” Shimmer said nervously. “That’ll work right?”

She laced her fingers around Demencia’s hand and moved in closer, gently pressing her forehead against Dem’s. The smell of blood was still present on her breath, but she didn’t seem to care she she kissed her anyway. “I just… I love you too much too see you get hurt…”

“Why’d I do it?” she asked Shimmer with an earnest look. She honestly hoped her lover would have the answer. All she could remember was becoming distressed over something, hitting that wall in her mind that made her feel sick and angry and blocked off thoughts and understanding and then…

The rage that drove her to destroy. She had taken Johan when Shimmer arrived and left in a huff. Now she was here waiting in the aftermath, aware she had messed up but unsure why she had.

“Sometimes there’s this wall in my head. I can’t think things. Certain things won’t come to me. Or I get sick and angry. And it frustrates me.”

Shimmer gently traced a finger along Demencia’s forehead, her brow wrinkled in thought. “Well… I can’t say why. But… I can find out what happened if you want?” She asked.

“See… I’ve got a new thing that I’ve been developing. I think I’m an Empath. Like… if I want, when I touch people… I can see their memories… I’m not saying I’m a full fledged mind-reader, but… I think that might be able to help a bit. If you want…”
