Shimmer chuckled slightly as she said, “Kid, I could’ve that. Let Joe eat, then you can check. Plus, Joe is a good name. If it’s male, Joseph. If it’s female Josephine. How’s that sound?”
“Yeah! Yeah, that’s- whoa…”
“I.. should, uh, probably be filming this. This little guy– uh, maybe girl– is just.. totally gobbling up a bear that’s, uh.. I don’t know, ten times his – MAYBE her size…? I wonder if they have to eat the whole thing to get the soul or something… I dunno..”
“Are you sure it isn’t just a meat eater? I mean, don’t you have to be alive to still have your soul?” Shimmer asked curiously.
“We can talk about that in a bit… But if you’re serious about this kid, first thing’s first… What are you gonna name it? Also, how do you know if it’s actually a male or female?” Shimmer said with a raised brow.
“Uh… um, I think I’ll name him Joe!”
Totally creative.
“Uh.. a-as for how I know, I.. don’t. I’m just guessing it’s a boy. I could try and look to see but I d-don’t know, uh, if their species has any visible–” As the small creature was devouring the bear, Savanna went to poke at his hind legs, only to nearly get her own hand bitten off in the process.
“EEP! Okay, okay, n-n-no touching, uh, while he eats! Noted!”

“I-I’m, uh, his mother now.. it’s official.. um.. I don’t even care if it’s one of them, at this point. I’m keeping hi–”
“Wait,” Savanna said, looking away as the tiny creature began to gorge itself on the bear carcass. “How a-am I, uh, gonna raise him without getting caught by Joseph..? If he catches me bringing up a demon… h-he could try and hurt him.”
“We can talk about that in a bit… But if you’re serious about this kid, first thing’s first… What are you gonna name it? Also, how do you know if it’s actually a male or female?” Shimmer said with a raised brow.

[cue a long time-skip where Savanna has finally found what she’s lookin’ for]
It was… beautiful. Its body was smooth, and… almost felt wet to the touch, and it had four small clawed hands that it used to paw haplessly at the air when she picked it up. A little on the heavy side, it was… truth be told, Savanna didn’t even know if this was what she was looking for, given that she had only read vague descriptions of adults in those old pages.
Seeing the creature writhing near the carcass of a dead animal was the only thing that had her make the connection, as these demons were supposed to feed on the meat of everything (human, demon, and animal) to acquire souls… but even that could’ve just been a coincidence.
One large, beady eye on its spherical head opened and turned to look at her. It was only after a while of them being in each other’s presence that it did not cry out or even make a threatening gurgle at her approaching.
It took even longer for it to accept her petting and holding him.
… And then the girl tried putting her hand near its mouth–
“Ow!”
“Huh- huh-hey! Don’t d-do that! I just wanted to, uh, see what his mouth looks like!” Savanna glared at Shimmer for smacking her hand away.
The small demon began gurgling out again when it spotted Shimmer. Savanna tried to silence it by forcing it to look in the direction of the bear carcass. “Look, food! Food..”
“I wouldn’t have done that if you hadn’t been reaching for it’s mouth the way you did.” Shimmer said sternly. “Baby or not, this is still a Demon you just met and haven’t had a lot of contact with. I don’t wanna see you losing a hand kid. I ain’t doing it to mean, I’m doing it to protect you."
Shimmer looked at the little demon as she crouched on her knees to get a better look at it. "Ya know it’s actually kinda cute…” She said with a smile, but she narrowed her eyes at it and growled threateningly back at the little Demon. “Don’t even try it…”

This is very touching. Very sad that they couldnt show his face because of the C&D. I’d do a Button’s Mom response song if I were good at writing lyrics.
