Demencia simply smiles, a little squeak escaping her.
“Hey, demon-lady! Whatcha doin’ today?” she nibbled her ear.
“Mmm, I was getting a little lonely at home, so I thought I’d come see how my lizard momma was doing.” She said with a chuckle that soon turned into a low mean as she felt her ear get nibbled on. “Heh… e-easy on those ears. They’re sensitive.” She said with a blush.
Shimmer gasped for breath as desperately tried to hold her own against… whoever this guy was. He certainly wasn’t holding back any punches and even though her magic was strong, he was significantly more powerful.
She flew through the air, sending spell after spell at the sorcerer, but he was able to counter her at ever angle. Eventually, her anger got the better of and she failed the see a coil of a magical restraint wrap around her ankle and fling her through the air. She hit a building, and almost felt her spine brake. Good thing she was resilient.
Getting to her feet and spitting out a glob of blood, she made one last lunge at the man. But she failed to see his hands light up in a green glow. The last thing she saw was a portal heading straight for her, and then…
Darkness.
Outside the darkness there would be light. Light from fire. Children ran in groups for security led by one adult, all in tattered clothing. They walked right over the fainted demon who had appeared magically. There was no time to examine her. They were on the run. Reaching a fence, they began to climb.
The world seemed to be aflame with civilians running for cover. In the distance a large statue stood erect of a woman with a crazed expression and atop the head, that very woman stood laughing maniacally. A ragtag team of soldiers appeared at the foot of the statue and called up to her. One had found the unconscious Shimmer. The masked soldier began poking the demon with their spear.
“Is it dead?”
“Give me that,” Demencia’s voice called to the soldier.
She caught the spear as she stepped up to the fainted demon and aimed the spear for the female’s heart. Another evil female was competition.
She looked vaguely familiar but…
Survival of the fittest.
Just before stabbing the demon she had a spur of the moment change of mind and kicked her arm instead to wake her.
“You’re not dead. Come on, hehe! Wake up! Who are you and what do you want here!”
Demencia’s soldiers aimed their weapons at Shimmer.
Shimmer slowly awoke with a throbbing pain in her head, and her back feeling like someone had run her over with a tank. She groaned and tried to open her eyes, but the refused to pry open. She wondered briefly what had happened, but then she remembered: a sorcerer knocked her into a building. ‘Oh yeah,’ she thought to herself. She had a sudden lurch in her stomach and spasmed violently before coughing out a mouthful of dark blood.
Then to add more pain on her already near paralyzing pain, she felt herself get kicked in the arm. Hard. She let out a groan of pain muted, muffled voices hit her ears. Slowly, she managed to get one eye open slightly, and was greeted to a sight she didn’t expect. While the guns at her face weren’t all that new… seeing her red and green haired friend was more then a welcoming sight.
Before she blacked out again, she desperately reached out a shaking hand, groaning out “D-Dem…” before collapsing into unconsciousness again.
(That’s literally Sunset in a nutshell. Except for the “can kill you with a pencil”. That’s Shimmer. Sunset will beat you to death with a pair of brass knuckles on her hands.)
