“Well, there’s nothing you can do!” She spat, shooting up from her spot to stomp over at Midnight. “There’s is NOTHING you can do to make this better! You have NO idea of the shit she had to go through! All the insults, the tears, the pain! The students would even physically attack her! Your friendship lessons didn’t seem to do shit for my sister!” She fumed.
“All she wanted was a little reassurance, a little hope that everything would be ok again, and the ONE PONY that she thought she could count on never fucking answered!”
She got down close and whispered, “So how about a little taste of what she went through?” And with that, magic flowing through her hands, she shot out and grasped her Midnight’s temples, letting the memories, the pain, the tears, everything flow into the queens mind, right down to Sunset’s death.
It crashed on her all too quickly. The excessive bullying, the long nights alone, the struggle of having Shimmer in her mind, and finally the bleak end with no hope in sight. And in the midst of it all Twilight was supposed to have been there. But had become this cold and distant figure, who had left her with a false hope that served only to weaken her.
A flash of magic boomed around her to throw the demon off of her, more unconscious than anything else. But Midnight’s power surged up again, her horn reappearing and her wings flaring.
She used her magic hold the demon back and prepared to force her own suffering on her. Despair that could easily rival or best even Sunset’s. She wanted to smash this bitch into the ground and make her cry until there was nothing left but to slit her wrists again.
Then her senses came to her slowly and all she could think about was the fact that back home some of her best friends were now her worst enemies. And that she had been driven…and driven hard, to become what she was now.
“I should do the same fucking thing you just did to me to you ten times over!” she exclaimed, her wings flapping and keeping her hovering above. But she landed on the ground and lifted her magic. “But instead I’ll say this– you didn’t have to show me, Shimmer. Because I already understood. There are two sides to every story. Do you think I stopped writing back because I stopped caring? Because I said ‘Oh Sunset doesn’t matter, let’s be a jerk and just leave her hanging?’ Did you consider what might have been going on in my Equestria. News flash; Shimmer. It’s not what it used to be. And things went to hell a lot faster than you might have realized. I had to pick up the slack. I’m a shit Princess of Friendship. But don’t you dare tell me that I didn’t try! You don’t know what I had to do to save my world– and I’m not about to show you because I don’t think you deserve more suffering after what Sunset went through.”
She broke her hold on the demon and offered. “I might be able to bring Sunset back. If you’re still alive, then her soul might still be there as well. Sleeping. It would depend on if she wanted to come back.”
Shimmer dropped to the ground in a heap as she stared at Midnight’s hand. Tears filled her eyes as she seemed to whisper, “Don’t you think I’ve tried that?” She said, tears now flowing freely. “I went to every magical user I’ve ever met, friend or enemy! They couldn’t find anything left of her…” She said with a sniffle.
“You said you would always be there for her… you willing to leave your world behind to help those Rainbitches out when they dealt with me! But you didn’t come for her! You didn’t…” Something finally seemed to break inside the demon and she collapsed on the ground in a sobbing mess. “She- she wanted you to come! Even for just a minute! But you didn’t!”
