In her grief, Shimmer did something, she never thought she’d ever do: she latched onto Nero, throwing her arms around his waist and sobbing into him. “D-demon… c-cut her in the back! I- I killed them all but I… oh God, no! Please! I wanna wake up! I wanna wake up!!”
“I need to know what killed her!” Nero clutched onto her, grinding his teeth. “Look – I’ll talk to the doctor, demand some answers, and… and– if you want, I won’t tell you how it happened. Just know it wasn’t your fault, okay? She… she was just a kid. There’s no way you could’ve protected her from everything…”
“… I killed them… I killed them all. I thought I could get her here in time…” Shimmer said in a low voice. “She… she went in to get me out of there… I should have stopped her! She was supposed to be my little sister! I was supposed to take care of her! And now…” she trailed off as tears began to fall once again.
