“Hey, this was all her doing.” Sunset said, jabbing a thumb at her red skinned, demonic counterpart. “Like I said, I had a kind of Jekyll and Hyde thing going on with her. If she did something, I don’t know what she did.”

“Alright, then – Sunset, how about you.. go do something else that doesn’t involve me?” The boy made a shooing motion with his hand, clearly uncomfortable with looking the innocent one in the face. “Shimmer’s fine. I wouldn’t care if I shot her a thousand times. But looking at you is kind of creeping me out, so…”

“Like what? Move on? Go to a movie? Hello?! Anyone home?!” Sunset said, using her fist to knock on the top of Nero’s head. “I’m dead, you dumbass! What can I go do?!”

“She right, demon boy. Where she goes, I go and vice versa. You’re stuck with us.”

Shimmer stood there and draped an arm around Sunset, grinning the same as her, her sharp canines seeming to shine in the light. “A little spell I cooked up. If anyone killed us, we’d haunt them till the die. Doesn’t that sound fun?!”

“… Sunset’s better than you. She wouldn’t want to do that to me. Right?” Nero looked between the two, taking a couple of steps back. What she said couldn’t be true – he did feel like he would be haunted by his decision for the rest of his life, but not literally!

“Yep! In the flesh! Well, mostly since I’m dead and all.” She chuckled at him, and flashed a mouthful of once perfect white teeth now stained red with blood.

“You ever been shot in the head? That shit hurts!” She said, sticking a finger in the hole in her head and twirling it around. “Still, this is pretty sick!”

“Oh, would you grow up?!” Another voice called out. “It was bad enough I had to share a body with you, but now I gotta put up with you more because this asshole had to off you?!”

“Then how are you still…?!” If this was a hallucination, Nero thought, he must have fucked over his head pretty good with what he did. He wasn’t the squeamish type at all, but seeing her so calmly jabbing her finger into a bullet wound was just gross.

“Eugh – sick is the right word. Yeah. Sorry for killing you, but – aren’t dead people supposed to – you know, be dead?!”

“Hey, Nero.~”

This was the last thing she had expected to wake up to. She knew she was dead. The bullet hole in her head and the still remaining bruises on her body were a testament to that. Now she knew why she was here. But still she couldn’t resist the opportunity to freak out Nero. She was dead, what more could he do?

Slowly, despite all of the guilt and pain he was feeling, the hunter was managing to fight through it. He just had to reassure himself that by taking one innocent life… he could have just saved thousands more by removing the evil one that shared it.

But then–

“What-?” His voice expressed sheer disbelief as he whirled around, and the poor boy was even more horrified when he saw the battered girl looking at him so… happily.

‘Oh, God, I’m hallucinating.’

“… Sunset …?!”
